Summer Reading Starts July 9th!

Summer Reading will be starting July 9th. Family Fun Events will be at 3pm with a special storyteller and a craft. At 4:30 will be our Teen Time programs. Stop by the library to see what programs we will be offering for Teen Time.

During March we will have a chance for teens to help create our own teen website! March 19th at 4:30pm in the Teen Chat Room we will be looking for some new ideas to spice up our teen library webpage.

Hi everyone,

My name is Letty and I am the new Young Adult library assistant. I have been working in the library for a year and a half. I have helped Dawn with some of your activities.

We have been working on a TAG election. We have changed the offices a little. We will have four officers: President-who will run the TAG meetings and be the fundraising Coordinator; Vice President- who will be responsible for making up meeting agendas and will be the phone tree coordinator; Secretary-will take notes during the meetings and write a TAG newsletter; and Treasurer-who will keep track of our finances and work with the President on fundraisers. If you are interested in running for any of these offices come to at least one of the next two TAG meetings and leave me your name and the office you want to run for.

Hi TAG members! Tis' the season to be Jolly and spread good cheer!
If you missed the Teen Chat Room on Nov. 29th, you missed a good one. The theme was "How to Win Friends and Talk to People." Actor Murray Robataille joined us for some impromptu acting advice and some great pointers for talking with people. Everyone got to take turns "acting" and set up the scenarios. Murray also gave us some great advice on peacefully resolving problems with potentially explosive situations. He has promised to come back another time to give us more pointers on acting.

The TAG is making Christmas ornaments and bags to sell in order to raise money to buy new teen books. Please come in Dec. 3-4 about 4 p.m. to help finish making them, and to get the Teen Room ready for all the customers. Hopefully, they will start flocking in Wed., Dec. 5, 12 and 19th. We can use LOTSSSSS of help. Come join us.

Our next TAG meeting will be Dec. 12th at 4:30 p.m., and the next Teen Chat Room will be Dec. 18th at 4:oo p.m. Be there!!

On a sad note...my last day at the library will be Dec. 14th. My husband has a new job in Texas and so...we will be moving at the end of the month. Please come into the library and say good bye to me before I leave. I'll miss all of you and your wonderful enthusiasm.

I apologize for the long dry spell of no new news, but without Kaylee to post these notes, I'm learning a new thing! So please bear with me while I learn.

The next TAG meeting will be on Wednesday, November 14th at 4:30p.m. Please come. We'll be making Christmas ornaments which we will sell as a fundraiser in order to buy more teen books for our collection. Come join the fun. We always have snacks and you can check out the pics from our second annual Teen Fright Night.

We have a new contest going for teens.
It's the Wrestlemania Reading Challenge that is mentioned on the Young Adult Library Services Association website.
Here is some of the information from the flyer we have:

HOW TO ENTER: This contest is for students in grades 9-12. Between now and January 16, 2007, read a combined total of ten (10) chapter books and magazines (including at least eight (8) chapter books),which must include "Athletic Shorts" by Chris Crutcher and "Black and White" by Paul Volponi. Pick up a reading log at Hemet Public Library's Children's Reference Desk. Write down the name and author of the books read and the name and issue of the magazines read.Either write a 300-word essay about "Athletic Shorts" or "Black and White" OR design a webpage depicting one (1) or more major plots and one (1) or more major characters from either or both of "Athletic Shorts" and "Black and White."Submit the form at the Hemet Public Library's Children's Reference Desk, along with your essay or webpage, no later than 6 p.m. on January 15, 2007. Only one entry per person.Two (2) First Prize Winners will be selected from among all eligible entries. A First Prize will be awarded to the student who submits the best essay and to the student who submits the best webpage. Each First Prize consists of a WWE DVD and T-shirt. Here are some things going on:

Does anyone want to read to children at the library? It's for Teen Read.
